CSUimproved its record to 3-2 (1-1 WAC) with an impressive showing from every side of the ball. Quarterback Daren Wilkinson got his passing game clicking on all cylinders with 150 yards on 12 of 23 passing with one passing and one rushing touchdown.
In addition to Wilkinson, four different Rams punched the ball in on the ground. Fullbacks E.J. Watson, Van Ward, Jamie Blake and Damon Washington each crossed the goal line once during the Rams fourth-largest offensive output of all time. Tight end Derrek Uhl recorded the Rams' only passing touchdown of the evening during the third quarter.
But the biggest highlight of the evening came when Greg Myers returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown with seven seconds remaining in the third quarter. Myers has had two TD returns called back during his career at CSU, making this his first official TD return in 83 tries. CSU's last punt return for a TD was in 1979 - a string of 172 games.
On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Nate Kvamme led the Rams with 10 tackles - 5 unassisted. Defensive end Sean Moran and defensive back Joe Ueland each had one sack and end George Schramm and lineman Greg Pollard combined on one.
Cornerback Raymond Jackson is now tied for first on the school's all-time interception list following his pick in the second quarter. Jackson also made the pick more memorable by returning it 92 yards for a TD. Myers also got into the take away-game with a 32-yard return in the third quarter.
The Aggies have now lost all eight night games they have played in Romney Stadium.
"I was proud of the team," CSU coach Sonny Lubick said. "We were really concerned coming into this football game how we would react after our last game (a 28-21 loss to BYU) and the players reacted well. We got some breaks and made some breaks."
The Rams will return to the Beehive State next Saturday to take on Utah at noon. The Utes lost their first WAC game tonight - 24-21 to San Diego State."
